AEROSPRAY® WATER BASED
HEMATOLOGY STAINER/CYTOCENTRIFUGE

MODEL 7120

In a world where hype frequently outruns the facts, the Aerospray Hematology Stainer has become a dependable workhorse in labs all over the world; a mature, proven system with thousands of satisfied users who exceptional cleanliness, quality and dependability at an affordable cost.

Wescor offers a truly advanced approach to slide staining, ending costly and messy procedures. Microprocessor control and user programmability bring substantial savings in time and reagent consumption. Since stain is never reused, cross-contamination of specimens is not possible.

Wescor’s water based Hematology stainer (Model 7120) is an excellent choice for peripheral blood smears, bone marrow, and other body fluids. The Hematology 7120 fixes, stains and dries up to 12 high quality slides in about 3 minutes with no debris or precipitation.

Not content to rest on laurels, in the years since its introduction Wescor has continued to upgrade the performance of the 7120 Hematology Stainer to be state of the art and a cut above the competition. And all Aerospray stainers are backed by excellent customer service and support.

Every Aerospray is also a fully capable cytocentrifuge with the purchase of the optional Cytopro® rotor.

  • Reagent Economy - Reagent is applied to individual slides as an atomized spray. Reagent delivery conforms to the number of slides being stained, saving reagent costs.
  • User-Programmability - A choice of 10 intensity settings including 3 bone marrow settings make the Aerospray highly responsive to a wide range of staining requirements.
  • Convenience - An operator initiated clean cycle reduces maintenance to a minimum. It’s a clean no fuss process from start to finish.
  • Rapid Performance - With a cycle time of less than 4 minutes, the Aerospray Stainer is ideal for STATS, but with a throughput of more than 180 slides per hour, it handles heavy loads easily. In either case, slides emerge dry and ready for the microscope.
  • Optional Cytocentrifuge Rotor - For the cost of an optional Cytopro Rotor, the Aerospray Stainer becomes a superb cytocentrifuge with eight-slide capacity and keyboard programmability at a fraction of the cost of a stand-alone cytocentrifuge.

THE WESCOR STAINING PROCESS FOR HEMATOLOGY

Smears are automatically fixed with methanol or with Aerofix fixative at the beginning of the staining cycle (alternatively, slides can be hand-fixed using methanol, Basofix, or other fixatives). After a drying sequence, eosin stain is applied to stain acidophilic cell components, followed by a brief period for stain penetration. Thaizin dye is then applied to stain the basophilic cell components, followed by another brief stain penetration period.

A buffered rinse cleans the slides of excess stain and is then removed by centrifugation. Slides are dry and ready for the microscope at the end of the cycle.

The Romanowsky Stain

The Aerospray Stainer uses a two-part aqueous Romanowsky stain. Its principal advantages are:

  • Rapid Staining Kinetics

Blood smears are fixed, stained, and dried in about 3.5 minutes.

  • Improved Stain Stability

The slow rate of decomposition of thiazin and eosin dyes in separate neutral aqueous solutions provides exceptional stability. Since changes in the stains occur very slowly, staining results are highly reproducible and consistent.

  • Clear Fields

Since there is virtually no stain precipitation or debris, slides are exceptionally clean.

  • Reagent Concentrates

All Wescor hematology reagents can be prepared from available concentrate to help defray shipping costs and to satisfy specific customer needs, such as neutrophil and overall color preferences.

Basofix®

For customers who prefer granulated basophils. Wescor offers Basofix fixative. This specially compounded formula yields stain coloration more reminiscent of alcohol-based stains. In addition to fixing basophil granules, primary granules are also strengthened.

With aqueous stains, basophil granules, which are water soluble, may be washed away in the staining process, but with experience, degranulated basophils are readily recognized.

Answering Today's Laboratory Needs

In the face of rising health care costs, any capital outlay must return maximum benefit for every dollar spent. The pressures of tight budgets, productivity demands and the need for diagnostic integrity make investment in the Aerospray Hematology Slide Stainer/Cytocentrifuge a choice that will please both the medical technologist and the laboratory administrator.
